Boric: “We have to be humble and receptive”

Chile Today was present at the rally Gabriel Boric held after the election results came in. The leftwing candidate tried to convince his electorate with a message of hope and called upon the left to unite behind him. Accreditations for Chile Today for the Kast rally were rejected.

The results weren’t what Gabriel Boric expected, but still, the ambiance at his rally was festive. In his speech, the Broad Front leader said it wouldn’t be the first time his alliance had to fight against something that seemed bigger. “We did it when we fought for education, we did it when we broke the binomial [electoral system], we did it when we gathered signatures and when we went to the primary,” Boric said.

“This story we are writing today began many, many years ago. Not only 2011, not only 2006, every struggle of our country, every triumph, every defeat was also a learning process that brought us here. . . . We have a very big challenge and I want to be very clear: let us not fall into any disdain, contempt or provocation to those who opted for different alternatives; what we have to do is the opposite. Our duty today is to listen, to understand what their fears and dreams are and why they chose other alternatives.”
