SANTIAGO – An explosion at a police station in the commune of Huechuraba in Santiago has injured five policemen. Two policemen were transferred with severe injuries to a nearby hospital. Authorities treat the explosion as a terrorist attack.
Around 12.45, an artificial explosive device detonated inside a police station in the Santiago commune of Huechuraba, leaving at least five policemen injured.
The police station, located in the La Pincoya sector, was immediately put on lock down as authorities opened an investigation on what is treated as a terrorist attack. Two gravely injured policemen were transferred by helicopters to nearby hospitals.
Authorities are currently trying to find out who is behind the attack. On social media, images circulate of a woman delivering a package to a policeman inside the station. The package was addressed to one of the higher ranked policemen.
Anyone with more information about this woman, dressed in jeans and wearing a red sweater, are asked to contact authorities. A large scale police operation was launched to find more information about the suspect and her whereabouts.
